What are Adult Family Homes?

Also known as residential care facilities and senior care homes, Adult Family Homes (AFHs) are considered the Bed and Breakfast of senior care options.  They provide room, board, laundry, necessary supervision, plus provide the needed help in the daily activities of basic living, personal care, and recreation.

Adult Family Homes also safely and effectively care for people with basic to complex medical needs. They offer seniors who need assistance with daily activities the option of living in a pleasant home-like environment.

All AFHs are private homes properly licensed and closely regulated by the State of Washington to offer room, board, and care for up to six residents. To ensure compliance with state regulations and that high quality is maintained, DSHS does yearly and on an-as-needed-basis unannounced inspections.

AFHs also provide a private or semi-private room, common areas for socializing, recreation and exercise programs, planned social activities, laundry service, housekeeping, special diet accommodations, three meals a day plus snacks, medication management, comprehensive health monitoring, and 24-hour staffing.

In addition, these senior care homes can provide limited nursing care under the supervision of an RN delegate or provider.  AFH residential care facilities work closely with doctors, dentists, physical therapists, and nurses that are on call for home visits.  Many of these care homes are available throughout King and Snohomish Counties for you to select from.
